In these times, at Matrika Yoga School & Ayurveda, we recognise the need for greater honesty and coherence in the training of future Yoga teachers.
Today, there are many Yoga teachers, but what is truly needed are guides and teachers who have first travelled through a profound process of self-healing, sustained by the practices offered by Yoga and Ayurveda.
Healing as the foundation of teaching
We firmly believe that it is not possible to guide others along a path that one has not first walked oneself.
Authentic teaching does not arise solely from technical knowledge, but from lived experience and from the integration of body, mind, energy and consciousness.
For this reason, we understand that personal healing is not an optional addition, but the essential foundation from which true mastery can emerge.
The Return to Your Centre Programme
It is from this understanding that, in October 2026, the second edition of the “Return to Your Centre” Programme will begin: a holistic health programme designed as a space for reconnection, self-listening and transformation through Yoga and Ayurveda.
An essential requirement in the training path
From this edition onwards, Return to Your Centre will be an essential requirement for students wishing to continue their Yoga teacher training at our school.
In this way, Matrika Yoga School & Ayurveda is not concerned solely with training teachers. We work from the deeper understanding that healing comes first, and that it is through one’s own healing process that genuine mastery naturally begins to emerge.
Return to Your Nature
Living disconnected from our nature inevitably leads to states of physical, mental and emotional imbalance. This disconnection often manifests as physical symptoms, stress, inner confusion and a persistent sense of dissatisfaction in daily life. When we do not understand who we truly are or what we need in order to live in harmony, we tend to repeat patterns that take us further away from health and wellbeing.
From the perspective of Yoga and Ayurveda, this lack of clarity is the true beginning of illness. Understanding our original code, or primary nature—formed during the first seven years of life—means recognising our life purpose and the way in which our spirit naturally inhabits the world.
Yoga and Ayurveda: sciences of life
Yoga and Ayurveda, ancient sciences of life, teach us that every human being is unique and that every healing process begins with a deep understanding of our natural constitution.
Through the study of the doshas—Vata, Pitta and Kapha—we learn to identify both our essential nature (prakriti) and our tendencies towards imbalance (vikriti), allowing us to restore equilibrium across every dimension of existence.
Reconnecting with our inner wisdom means understanding how our body works, how emotions influence us and how to relate consciously to our surroundings in order to live with greater fullness.
Tools for a balanced life
Ayurveda teaches us to adopt healthy lifestyle habits related to nutrition, sleep, circadian rhythms and Ayurvedic psychology, offering an integral view of the human being.
Yoga, in turn, offers physical and energetic tools—asanas, shatkriyas (purification techniques) and pranayamas—which progressively guide us towards a meditative state of being.
The union of Yoga and Ayurveda is a profound and transformative combination. It allows us to learn how to live in a more conscious, healthy way, aligned with our true essence, and to find deeper meaning in our existence.
A space for healing and training
From this vision emerges a space dedicated both to healing and to training, grounded in the teachings of these sister traditions.
Whether you are new to Yoga, considering training as a Yoga teacher, or already teaching Yoga, it is essential to have travelled a path of self-discovery and healing through Yoga in order to sustain teaching over the long term.
Psycho-spiritual support
During these sessions, and throughout our experience, we have observed that spaces for psycho-spiritual support often open naturally.
Although the follow-up sessions do not constitute a psychotherapy process, they can facilitate a rearticulation of one’s personal story, supported by the foundations of Yoga and Ayurveda. The extent to which these spaces emerge depends on the openness of each individual.
This support develops through the understanding and integration of principles such as:
- Exploration of saṃskāras (past impressions or memories) that have given rise to vāsanās (behavioural and emotional habits).
- the psycho-energetic healing,
- the compassion,
- the impermanence,
- and the concept of karma, understood as one of the underlying causes of imbalance and illness.
For this reason, we present the online “Return to Your Centre” Programme: a practical and in-depth programme grounded in more than 20 years of experience in the practice of Yoga and Ayurveda, guided by Pablo Ferrero, Director of Matrika Yoga School.
