Pablo Ferrero Fernández
About Me
I have been a student of Yoga since 2005 and a teacher since 2012. I am also a bodywork therapist specialising in Ayurveda and Osteopathy, as well as an Ayurvedic Health Counsellor.
My Path
My path in Yoga is nourished by a search for integration and authenticity. Although my ultimate aim is to transcend definitions, organising my personal story helps me understand the journey I have travelled and glimpse the horizon ahead.
My current approach combines Iyengar Yoga, Hatha-Kriya Yoga, and Classical Tantra, with a particular emphasis on non-dual Kashmir Shaivism. Tibetan Buddhism and its various practices also continue to be a fundamental pillar in my life.
In recent years, the shamanic worldview of the Amazon and the Andes, together with work involving medicinal plants, has taken on a central role in my process of self-knowledge and transformation. This journey began as a result of liver problems that I had been experiencing for some time. Through this medicine and Ayurvedic medicine, I am now in excellent health, beyond life’s natural ups and downs.
By circumstance, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication Sciences, as well as a Postgraduate Degree in Coaching and Personal Leadership from the University of Barcelona. I also studied Psychology, although I did not complete the programme.
Yoga Training and Experience
I am a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, trained at the Institut Anuttara de Yoga Iyengar in Nice under the guidance of Christian Pisano and June Whittaker. I have deepened my studies in Integral Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga for Women, and Kashmir Tantra with Amit Raina and Lina Ma at the Kashmir Shaivism School of Yoga in India. I also hold a Diploma in Yogic Studies from Yoga Vidya Gurukul and the University of Pune.
Since 2008, I have travelled regularly to India, where I have studied and practised with renowned schools including the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, Bihar School of Yoga, Yog Ganga for Yoga Studies, and Patanjala Yoga Kendra. I have made more than ten journeys to India, accumulating nearly three years immersed in its culture, which has become a second home to me.
In Spain, I have attended regular classes at EYI Sol and the Centro de Ioga Iyengar de Barcelona. I currently attend regular classes with Fidel Collado in Madrid, where I have found experienced and sensitive guidance.
Complementary Interests
As a student of traditional Indian music, I have had the privilege of learning tabla and vocal techniques with respected teachers.
Teaching Yoga in Different Contexts
Since 2012, I have taught Yoga in regular classes, retreats, and teacher-training programmes. For many years, I combined teaching Yoga with my work as an adventure travel guide in Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Morocco, Peru, and India.
After teaching in Toronto and Barcelona, I settled in the Sierra Oeste area of Madrid in 2018, in a small town called Chapinería. Since then, I have directed Matrika Yoga School, with locations in Chapinería and Alcorcón, Madrid.
Here, I carry out my work in Yoga teaching and healing through Ayurveda and bodywork therapy. I am supported by a team of outstanding professionals and human beings trained at Matrika Yoga, each with a rich and inspiring life experience.
My Involvement with AEYI
Until 2024, I was a member of AEYI, the Spanish Iyengar Yoga Association. However, due to a conflict of interest and because I felt that my rights and freedoms were being violated, I decided to end my affiliation.
If you would like to learn more about my decision, you can read my departure letter at this link.
A Little More About My Journey…
The Experience Gained Along the Way
Throughout my life, I have moved through different processes of transformation. I began my personal inner work through Yoga and meditation at the age of 16. Over more than a decade of dedicated practice—immersing myself in Yoga, Ayurveda, and Tantra—I developed an increasingly subtle understanding of the mind, its functions, and its fluctuations.
I worked with essential aspects such as compassion, forgiveness, and the different manifestations of the ego. However, over time, I became aware that it was not enough to face life solely through mind-body practices.
Despite the work I had done, I felt that my karmic body still carried energetic seeds from past experiences—imprinted in very deep layers of my being, like memories that had not yet been fully integrated.
This recognition led me to immerse myself in a three-year process of psychotherapy, primarily through Gestalt therapy and Lacanian psychoanalysis. At the same time, I undertook in-depth training in Coaching and Personal Leadership, whose first year was entirely devoted to inner work through systemic therapy, the Enneagram, and the examination of introjects and limiting beliefs. Through this process of rearticulating my personal history, I began to perceive how my energetic body was gradually recovering more optimal levels of vitality.
Little by little, my energetic body began to open, and the entire worldview I had studied throughout my travels in India—energetic work, yogic purification, and subtle practices—started to take on a deeper meaning, becoming organically rooted in my life experience. During this process, music, mantra chanting, and vocal healing became increasingly important. Through them, I felt for the first time that healing was progressively and coherently reaching every layer of my being.
Within my path of self-knowledge, 2018 marked a turning point. It was then, during a journey to Peru, that I began to explore the use of medicinal plants from the Amazon and the Andes.
My approach to Ayahuasca and San Pedro opened up a deeply revealing worldview for me. As someone with a strong “earth” quality, it was an experience of great beauty and clarity, through which I was able to recognise the profound similarities between the worldviews of India—particularly Classical Tantra and Tibetan Buddhism—and the spiritual vision of the ancestral cultures of South America.
Since then, I have taken part in numerous medicine ceremonies and have also completed a couple of dietas, processes that have allowed me to continue purifying my physical, energetic, and spiritual body. These experiences have given me access to expanded states of consciousness, in which the sense of Unity—the experience that we are all interconnected and form a single, unique, and interdependent whole—has gradually become a natural way of being in the world.
This is complemented by my deep immersion in the application of Ayurveda, both on a personal level and as a means of self-healing, as well as through supporting others in Ayurvedic health consultations. This perspective has enabled me to observe myself, as well as patients, students, and people close to me, through a different lens—gradually moving beyond a purely humanistic perspective towards a more nature-based and essential understanding.
We all come from Mother Earth, and much of our suffering arises from a profound disconnection from her.
Rather than trying to “save” her from the arrogance that often characterises human beings, perhaps we need to learn to let ourselves be saved by her: to ask for permission, receive her blessings, and relate with respect and humility to all that she offers us.
It is from this place that I now accompany healing processes: processes in which we work with compassion and forgiveness towards our personal history, with the aim of rearticulating our lives and understanding that everything we have lived through—without exception—has been necessary in order to recognise our true nature. Every step, every experience, even the most difficult ones, has shaped the person I am today.
Ultimately, we are the perspective through which we choose to interpret and inhabit the world. I continue to know and work on myself, and I am pleased to say that my goal is to explore my fullest potential as a human being—and to maintain optimal levels of energy as the result of a good life.

Testimonials

Gracias maestro!!
